Choosing between full and partial dentures

Partial Dentures vs. Full Dentures

Choosing the Right Option for You

Regardless of whether you have one or several teeth to replace, a missing tooth affects your appearance and increases your risk of having dental problems. Dentures have been a cost-effective solution for many decades and have a variety of options, which can make it overwhelming when it's time to choose.

Full and partial dentures each have their own pros and cons. You must have all the necessary information to make the best decision for you and your oral health.

Full Dentures

Full dentures are the ideal solution for those who have lost all of their natural teeth. These appliances are designed to give the patient a new smile by replacing missing teeth. If a few natural teeth are remaining, the dentist may recommend having them removed to create space for the upper or lower denture.

An upper or lower denture is secured in the mouth using suction and adhesive. Traditional dentures are removable, making it easier to clean them. It may take some time to adjust to wearing a new appliance, but your ability to chew will be restored.

Partial Dentures

Patients with a few teeth remaining may be better suited for a partial denture. Instead of replacing every tooth on the upper or lower arch, partial dentures fill the spaces of missing teeth.

A partial denture is secured in the mouth by anchoring to the remaining teeth using clasps. These appliances help with issues that affect your bite and speech, but they also beautifully fill in the gaps of any smile.
